Dr. Marshall is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Gastroenterology at McMaster University, as well as a consultant gastroenterologist at Hamilton Health Sciences in Hamilton Ontario. He completed his B.A. and M.D. at Queen’s University, and then undertook his residency training and M.Sc. in Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics at McMaster University. He is a Full Member of the Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute. His publications include over 250 academic papers and book chapters and over 250 abstracts. Dr. Marshall is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (JCAG). Past honours include the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG) Young Investigator Award (2008), the CAG Young Educator Award (2006), the CAG Clinical Professorship (2020) and Fellowship in both the American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF, 2007) and the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAGF, 2020). Dr. Marshall’s clinical and research interests include inflammatory bowel disease, post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome, gastrointestinal bleeding, endoscopy, clinical trials, clinical epidemiology, health outcomes and health economics.

Mark S. Silverberg MD, PhD, FRCPC is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto and an attending gastroenterologist at Mount Sinai with a focus on the management of complicated IBD. He runs a research laboratory studying biomarkers relevant to its clinical course. Dr. Silverberg is actively engaged in educating health care professionals on IBD through his roles as Founder and Past Director of the Advanced IBD Fellowship Program at Mount Sinai, and co-director of both the Canadian GI Fellows Program in IBD and the Great Lakes IBD Forum. He is an elected member of the International Organization for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IOIBD) and Past Chair of the IMIBD Section of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Council. He is Founder of the Toronto Immune and Digestive Health Institute (TIDHI), a unique stand-alone facility providing multi-disciplinary digestive disease care in a community clinic setting.

Dr. Vipul Jairath is a Professor of Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, and holder of the John and Susan McDonald Endowed Chair in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Clinical Research at Western University. He is Director of the Advanced IBD fellowship at Western University and Director of the IBD Clinical Trials at University Hospital. He has a cross appointment in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. His research interests include the development and validation of clinical outcomes measures in IBD which have included modalities such as endoscopy, radiology and histopathology and clinical trial methodology. He has led a number of clinical trials, most recently REACT2 and VERDICT. He is also Chief Medical Officer at Alimentiv, overseeing all R&D activities.
